February 2019

The Lucky One – Nicholas Sparks (366/366 pages) (4/5 stars)
A walk to Remember – Nicholas Sparks (78/224 pages) (3/5 stars)
Reading Rate – 15 pages a day.

This month, I was slightly lazy and I did not read as much as I would have loved to. I read only two books. Both by Nicholas Sparks. The Lucky One was rated four stars because it was a real tear-bringer. It warmed it’s way to my heart with an initial twisted love story but was simply amazing. I really took my time with this book because it required time for it to sink in. Although I am not done reading A Walk to Remember, it seems like a really complex story with a slower build up. It is pretty good so far. I will let you know how it went once I am done reading. My goal for next month is to complete A Walk to Remember. I would also like to read Purple Hibiscus by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.

March 2019.

A walk to Remember – Nicholas Sparks (146/224 pages) (4/5 stars)
Purple Hibiscus – Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie ( 320/320 pages) (5/5 stars)
Little Bee – Chris Cleave (149/266 pages) (1/5 stars)
Reading Rate- 20 pages a day.

This month, I read a lot because I had two weeks off school. I would also like to announce that I met both of my goals for this month. Technically, I cheated because I read the entirety of Purple Hibiscus in a day (I did not leave my bed), but I still met my goal. I am very happy with my reading this month. I have rated A Walk to Remember 4/5 stars because it really made me cry. It is a really sincere and heartfelt story. I rated Purple Hibiscus 5/5 stars because it has always made me genuinely happy. It resonates with my soul. It is also written so stylistically and with so much creativity that I am stunned. Also, after reading this book constantly for several years, I just realized this time that it had a full circle going on. Finally, I rated Little Bee 1/5 stars, only because I wasn’t sure if giving 0 stars was okay. This book has sparked genuine anger in my soul, not only for the awkward writing and choppy sentences, but for its lack of originality. This is a story about a Nigerian girl, written by a British man who has never been to Nigeria. His repeated use of words like “jungle” and “the killers” are wrong and not true. My goals for April are to attempt to finish Little Bee and read  Baxter Family Christmas by Karen Kingsbury.

April 2019

A Baxter Family Christmas – Karen Kingsbury (558/558) (4/5 stars)

Reading Rate – 17 pages a day.

Despite my reading only one book, my reading rate fell only three pages. I thoroughly enjoyed the single book I read this month. This semester, I’ve been reading books from my childhood and this is a continuation of the series that helped me fall in love with reading. This story was so simply written but yes written with intricacy that had me hooked despite my hectic schedule. Sadly, I wasn’t able to finish reading Little Bee this month. I couldn’t bring myself to read the book anymore, sadly. My goals for next month include re-reading Half of a Yellow Sun and a book I pick at random.
