Biography

Nicholas Charles Sparks was born December 31st 1965 in Omaha, Nebraska. He is of German, Czech, Irish and English ancestry. He was raised in the Roman Catholic faith and continues to practice Catholicism.

He attended the University of Notre Dame on a full ride scholarship for track and field. He majored in Business Finance.  

He is an American novelist and screenwriter. He has written over 20 fiction novels with 11 of them made into films, with million dollar box office grosses.

He decided to start writing after his mother chastised him for being idle by saying, “Go write a book or something”.

 

Writing Style and Genre

Sparks typically writes romantic fiction and romantic drama.

He also likes to call his writing “love stories”, as opposed to romance novels. He says this is why most of his novels involve bittersweet endings such as the death of a character.
