Here are some blogs, people and things that inspire me!

February 2019.

My favorite person in the literary world definitely inspired me this month. Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. I happened to watch her famous Ted Talk, “The Danger of a Single Story” and it definitely made me rethink a lot of things. it was quite timely as well, because it is Black History Month. Here is the link to the video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9Ihs241zeg. I hope this inspires you as well.

Another blog that inspired me, was that of my friend Abhay. He wrote a lovely piece on marriage, from the perspective of a woman titled “Falling Under”. It’s really enlightening to see people write from perspectives that aren’t theirs, and they might never get to experience. March 2019.

My greatest inspiration always and forever will be Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. So this month’s inspiration from her was her debut novel, Purple Hibiscus. I read this novel for the first time when I was 7. Then reading it 10 years later, I was completely blown away. It felt like I was reading a new book. Her words were so intricate and delicate, it felt like a newborn was placed in my arms. This book is available on Amazon!

Someone else that inspired me is a blogger and friend, Bella Giwa-Amu. Her blog and YouTube channel are both titled “The Brownie Gram”. However, she inspired me by her blog about childbirth. She just delivered her first baby. She talked about co-parenting and the ability to put aside differences for a new baby. It inspired some of my poetry this month.

April 2019.

A woman that greatly inspired me this month is Upile Chisala. She is a poet whose target audience is young black females. She has two books called Nectar and Soft Magic. The main poem that inspired me this month says, “Get in the habit of celebrating yourself from skin to marrow. You are magic”. Her work inspired me this month because I was dealing with a lot of insecurity, especially in my acting and writing.

Another inspiration this month was the One Act play, Dreamspyre by Sara Graefe. This is a story about death, love, discrimination, prejudice. This story inspired me to persevere and to continue in my chosen paths. The stylistic blocking of this piece inspired a new directing side to any new acting projects I embark on. It was directed by the amazing Liza Makarova. Here’s the link to her blog: http://curtaincall.edublogs.org/biography/
